Basic Blue Print and Dimensional Metrology
Blueprint reading, Handheld PMI, and Computer assisted measurement class The course consists of 3 modules. 1st Module: Basic Blueprint reading prepares and introduces the student basic components and layout that make up a blueprint. Student will recognize and demonstrate different views, lines, tolerancing, radius, depth, chamfers, etc. The student will build on this knowledge and create a drawing from start to finish. At end of the class the student will have the knowledge on how to properly read, and understand the different sections and proper placements to make and draw a blueprint. 2nd Module: The Handheld Precision Measurement Module consists of how to practice proper Precision, Accuracy & Resolution. Perform appropriate calibration and properly handle, read, and care for a Starrett Precision Handheld Measurement Tool that are supplied in a Snap-On tool Box. Building off the knowledge from the 1st module the student will have a machined part to check if it matches the blueprint. The student will learn how to identify and properly operate the correct Handheld Starrett Precision Measurement tools (Caliper, Micrometer, Ruler, ETC) to check the part acceptability or rejectability. Students will have the ability to take an NC3 certification at the end of the class to earn a certificate. 3rd Module: Basic CMM Optical 2D and 3D touch probe 3D scanning computer assisted GDT measurements: Our CMM Program offers stationary and moveable arm technology for non-contact optical 2D and 3D measurement. Manufacturers that uses this method in many cases speed up the repeatability checking machined parts compared to the slower handheld method. The student will achieve basic knowledge on operating the Optical comparator by learning the software portion and how to retrieve and load the correct file for the part to be checked using the Optical 3D measuring device. The student will learn basic hands on training to insure proper repeatability placement of a machined part to be checked by using a jig or other means to hold the part to be compared.
